Welcome to this special one off video! While we were visiting RAF Duxford last year we heard about this unique Lancaster Bomber Experience. An opportunity to not only climb inside this special aircraft but also have a tail down taxy ride, and the only place you can do it is at The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Museum. It was an opportunity we couldn't miss!
We rode for 3hrs the night before our visit but the weather was so atrocious we didn't capture any video footage. Neverthless, the following day we awoke to beautiful blue skies and sunshine and our hotel was only a 20 minute short ride from the airfield.
We were put into two groups for the experience - morning ride and afternoon ride. I was in the afternoon group which meant we had time in the morning to look around the Museum - all of which was fascinating.
The experience of being inside the aircraft and hearing the briefing of just how awful the flying conditions were was very sobering. The generation of airmen of that era were truly special people and given the average age of mid 20s make them even more remarkable.
The Petwood Hotel was equally memorable as it was the Officer's Mess of 617 (Dam Busters Squadron).
